Verizon To Suspend Health Benefits Unless Employees Cease Strike.
Bloomberg News (8/17, Banerjee) reports, Verizon Communications Inc., “where about 45,000 workers are out on strike,” announced it will “suspend certain benefits at the end of the month” if the employees have not “returned to their jobs.” Verizon spokesperson Richard Young said workers at the two unions that “called strikes will lose basic health-insurance, dental, vision and prescription-drug benefits.” The telecommunications company “stopped funding the workers’ pensions when their former contract expired Aug. 6.” Represented by the “Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers,” Verizon employees went on strike “after they failed to reach an agreement on a new contract.” Verizon is asking them to “pay more for health-insurance benefits.”

The avg price of RX drugs in the US is 30% more than in 33 other countries, according to Sen D-WI Herb Kohl. Should we allow our gov to negotiate directly with the Rx Manufactures to lower cost? I am tempted to say yes, but I am not, it will just end up in more loss of freedom.The government will bully the Rx companies out of business and then get in the Rx business. Just imagine… our Gov will only need to produce and provide drugs to us they they deem necc. I can’t wait!
